The Seventh-day Adventist church places high value on the children of the church. The children represent the future. Therefore, helping children to understand the fundamental beliefs of the church is an integral aspect of the mission, which is inspired by the words of Jesus, “Let the children come to Me” (Matthew 19:14).
The Children’s Online Bible Quiz is based on the twenty-eight fundamental beliefs of the Adventist church. Children anywhere in the world can sign up to participate and this is the beauty of the virtual platform. It also allows for connection to people and hearts in real life experiences.
Every Sunday at 3 p.m. children are given the opportunity to participate in an online quiz using Nearpod (a student engagement platform). Sunday, July 4 was the launch of this fun and educational initiative, and we were not disappointed. It was the moment that the participants had prepared for. This historical quiz featured participants from St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Antigua and the UK. It was truly a battle of the minds.
As the children signed in, the hosts reveled in the hint of excitement that marked the eager faces as the image on the screen revealed the words “Time to Climb.” This fun online activity is not only about having the correct answers, but it is also about how quickly the questions are answered. In this online quiz, the computer scores the participants on speed and accuracy.
The age categories for this quiz are 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11 to 14. This categorization allows for the level of the questions to match the individual age group.
It was like a surreal thrill of hope as the children introduced themselves and proudly identified the country and/or territory that they represented. Even though individual scores matter; only the team scores were celebrated. Children were encouraged to support and encourage each other as they vied for the highest collective score.
Congratulations to all our participants but special congratulations are extended to St. Kitts for taking the top position in the first online quiz. The race is not for the swift but for those who endure to the end (Eccl 9:11; Mat 24:13). We continue every Sunday in faith, fun and favour. Let your children sign in to slcadventist.org every Sunday at 3 p.m. and receive a blessing.
