Sabbath, December 11, 2021, was a day that will remain etched in the minds of the Antigua and Barbuda Adventurers for many years to come. It was the grand finale of the Bible Connection Challenge, and the top 20 Adventurers from the various churches around the island did not disappoint. The Adventurers displayed to the world their diligence and commitment to the study of the word of God in an unbelievable and nail-biting Bible challenge hosted at the St. John’s Seventh-day Adventist Church and online on the AB Adventurers on the Move YouTube channel.
The challenge promptly got underway at 3:30 p.m. with a warm welcome and opening remarks by the effervescent area coordinator, Ronis Browne. Immediately after, the ever-energetic assistant island coordinator, Maribaine Romeo, invoked the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide the proceedings and led the exuberant Adventurers in reciting the Adventurer song, law, and pledge.
The Seaglans Adventurers then conducted the ‘Praise in Motion’ segment and the All Saints Adventurers favoured the congregation with a beautiful instrumental rendition. The Adventurers were excited to receive a charge from the Youth Ministries director, Pastor Carl Hastings, whose words of encouragement for the Adventurers and the team of Youth Ministries leaders set the tone for an exciting event.
Then, the moment that all were awaiting finally arrived. The Adventurers had been trained in the way that they should go, and now it was time to put their knowledge to the test.
Dressed in full uniform and seated around tables at the front of the church, the Adventurer scholars logged on to their various devices. With their laptops, tablets, and phones, they were ready to commence round one of the online questions for the Bible Connection Challenge. These questions were taken from chapters 17 to 26 of the first book of Samuel and the story of “David and Goliath” in “Patriarchs and Prophets”. The questions were uploaded by island coordinator, Kerneice Galloway, and read in the hearing of the congregation by director, Calesia Thibou.
The audience observed expectantly as the first of two rounds, with 25 challenging questions, were posed to the Adventurers. At the end of the first round, Adventurer Judah Barry from the All Saints Church emerged as the top Adventurer, with Adventurer Jordan Weste from the St. John’s Church following closely in second place.
During the second round, the audience listened attentively as Area Coordinator Thibou read out every question. The congregation watched with quiet anticipation as they tried to glean a hint of which Adventurer would emerge as the overall victor from the faces and body languages of the participants. These brilliant Adventurers, however, gave nothing away as they diligently divided the word of truth and selected the correct responses in answer to the questions posed. Both Judah Barry and Jordan Weste looked composed and assured of their responses, while Jasmine Greenaway was hot on their heels and appeared quietly confident. When the dust settled, Jordan Weste managed to claim the top spot overall as the Bible Connection champion for 2021, while Judah Barry and Jasmine Greenaway claimed the second and third positions, respectively.
Shnae James and Ramique Mascall claimed the fourth and fifth spots, and for their brilliant efforts, each of the five top-placed champions was awarded a brand new tablet. Every Adventurer was a winner in the Bible Connection Challenge since no one went home empty-handed with various prizes and certificates being distributed to every single Adventurer participant.
Then it was time for the Adventurers to relax and unwind and allow the audience to take the hot seat and participate in the trivia segment “Parents Bible Connection Challenge”. It was clear from the responses that the parents in the congregation had played an integral role in getting their Adventurers ready for the challenge as they rattled off the correct answers to the various questions posed by coordinator, Elicia Blucher-Watson.
This Adventurers Bible Connection Challenge fulfilled and surpassed all expectations as a fun-filled and exciting session filled with songs, instrumentals, trivia, games, prizes and so much more. This year promises to be better. It is the hope and prayer of the Youth Ministries leader that the Adventurers will continue to be champions for Jesus beyond this Bible Connection Challenge event by continued daily study of the word of God that they may all win the ultimate prize of a place in heaven.
