Isaiah 6:8 says, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? “Then said I, “Here am I; send me.” This was the message proclaimed at the first ever World Adventurer Day on May 15, 2021, at the St. John’s Seventh-day Adventist Church. The day exploded into a start with the Potters Adventurers declaring that Jesus wants them to be sunbeams! After that, the tempo kept increasing to a crescendo.
The All Saints and Tindall Adventurers declared that although they could not travel to foreign lands they would serve Jesus here, the best they can. The gathering broke out in laughter as they watched Grandma, Maribaine Romeo, explain to her grandson what his purpose in life was. The arthritis in her legs did not prevent her from drawing a parallel between young Timothy in the Bible, who grew in the Lord having obeyed the counsels of his mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois.
The Sabbath School feature was an object lesson, which reminded the Adventurers that no child was saved in either the flood or the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. In these two instances, the consequences of disobedience were not explained to the children and they were not given the opportunity to make a choice. In the object lesson, the Adventurers were told that the gospel was a lifeline to throw out to other Adventurers and children lost in sin and they have to accept the call to go tell.
The Adventurers displayed superior singing talent from Zolina Simon of the Orion Adventurers Club. All Saints Adventurers expressed their desire to be available to God, and the New Winthorpes Adventurers reminded all, “to get their worship on”. Even Barbuda raised their voices on high and sang “Hallelujah, Amen!” Seaglans Adventurers had lots to sing and dance about because they knew that Jesus is their firm foundation and they put their hope in His Holy Word.
Island coordinator, Kerneice Galloway, highlighted the Adventurer year by commending the work of the various clubs on a job well done during the lockdown period. The Villa and All Saints Adventurer Clubs demonstrated that it was “not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord” that they were going to move through the pandemic and they were a credit to their Directors Thibou and Baptiste, respectively. A round of applause for the coordinators and tech team who decided on creating the Adventurer YouTube channel. The idea was innovative and intuitive.
The processional had all the pomp and circumstance as any ceremonial parade, and it was a precursor to the excellence of the divine hour to follow.
Without any dispute, the highest point of the day was the sermon presented by the little, dynamic, eloquent Chovia Joseph from the Jennings Adventurers Club. Her discourse was entitled, “The Mission”, and it was clarified simplistically for her peers to understand, yet profound enough that the adults can relate.
The curtains came down with a virtual game’s night. The entire program was a huge success and the Adventurers look forward to the next World Adventurer Day.
