The South Leeward Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is the umbrella body of the Seventh-day Adventist organization in the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, St Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat. These five breath-taking, sun-kissed islands in the Southern Leeward Islands chain sparkle with diversity and teem with a fusion of fascinating cultures, diverse beliefs, awe-inspiring landscapes, and an abundance of mouth-watering foods. They embrace an array of lifestyles—from the tourist-bustling cities to the slower tempo of village life. From the 365 sun-washed white sand beaches of Antigua and unspoiled pink sandy beaches of Barbuda, to the lush green mountains of St. Kitts, from the lava-capped mountains of the Emerald Isle of Montserrat to the beautiful botanic gardens of Nevis. In the midst of this picturesque landscape are a group of Bible believing Christians obediently keeping God’s commandments and sharing his message of hope as we eagerly await the second coming of Jesus.
As a people of hope, “We can help you understand the Bible to find freedom, healing and hope in Jesus.” We currently have a membership of 11,678 scattered in 50 congregations across the territory. Our administrative headquarters is located on American Road, St John’s Antigua. In addition to our worship centers, we operate several institutions:
- An early childhood center in Antigua
- Three elementary schools, one in St Kitts and two in Antigua
- One secondary school in Antigua
- A senior citizens home (Tabitha) in Antigua
- An FM and online Radio Station (Second Advent 101.5 FM) in Antigua
- A Dental Clinic in St Kitts
- A Co-operative Credit Union in Antigua
We also host two regional institutions:
- The University of the Southern Caribbean extension site
- The Inter-American Division Book and Health Food store
We have a strong humanitarian outreach ministry which operates mainly through Adventist Community Services (functioning out of our individual congregations) and Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) (functioning mainly from our headquarters).
The South Leeward Conference is but a subset of the larger Seventh-day Adventist community across the Caribbean and around the world. Globally, we are one of the fastest growing Christian communities numbering approximately 20,000,000. We describe ourselves as a conservative Protestant body of evangelical Christians whose faith is grounded in the Bible and centered on Jesus, with stress on His atoning death on the cross, ministry in the heavenly sanctuary, and soon return to redeem His people. We are known for our Sabbath observance, for our emphasis on maintaining health as part of religious duty, and for our mission activities around the world.
Here in the South Leeward Conference, our immediate focus is to spread the message of hope and to prepare the people of the territory for the Second Coming of Christ.
